The iOS 16 update is here and for many iPhone users, it will dramatically improve the user experience compared to the older iOS 15 update. However, there are many of the new features in iOS 16 will only work with specific new iPhone models.
In other words, there are some iOS 16 features that will not work on old iPhone models like Action Mode, Live Captions, etc.
With iOS 16, Apple is highlighting customization along with a few features that improve the decision to use an iPhone. For all supported iPhone models in India, the update is now available for download.
All iPhone 8 and newer models will support iOS 16, while the iPhone 7 and iPhone 6s series won’t. In reality, iOS 16 will be released for the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone SE (2020), iPhone SE (2022), iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max, as well as iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. The iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max will all have the update pre-installed.
Some iOS 16 capabilities, it is also said, are only available on more recent iPhone models. We quickly review each of those aspects.
iOS 16 Features that are Restricted to Old iPhone Models:
These capabilities can only be used with iPhone XS and newer devices because they require the A12 Bionic chipset to function.

- Quick Actions in Live Text.
- New Languages for Live Text.
- Siri sends emojis in texts.
- Dictation with text edits.
- Add medications using an iPhone camera.
- The Live Caption function is another one that can only be used with iPhone 11 and later models.
- Additionally, only the iPhone 13 series models will have foreground blur in portrait mode images and better Cinematic Mode quality.
- Then there are some iOS 16 features that are only available on the iPhone 14. Now, 4K resolution can be recorded in the Cinematic Mode at 24 and 30 frames per second. Another update to the camera app is Action Mode.
