The maker of the well-known chatbot ChatGPT, OpenAI, intends to open a marketplace where developers can sell AI models constructed using its own AI technology, according to a report on Tuesday from the Information, which cited sources with knowledge of company conversations.
Enterprise customers who use the chatgpt app frequently modify the technology for their unique purposes, ranging from spotting financial fraud using information from online transactions to responding to inquiries about particular markets using internal papers. The authors of these models might offer them to other businesses through the marketplace that OpenAI is preparing, according to the news report.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman reportedly disclosed the future goals during a meeting with developers in London last month.
Such a marketplace might compete with app stores run by some of the company’s clients and technology partners, like Salesforce and Microsoft, in addition to helping OpenAI’s technologies reach a wider audience.
OpenAI did not immediately answer a request for comment from Reuters.
The Information also mentioned that two of the company’s clients, Khan Academy, a maker of educational apps, and Aquant, a producer of software that manufacturers use to instruct customers on how to maintain and repair devices, might be interested in offering their ChatGPT-powered AI models for sale on OpenAI’s marketplace.
Since ChatGPT’s release in late 2017, many businesses have used it to automate procedures and increase efficiency. Businesses are also competing to provide their customers novel tools and features built on the advanced large language models (LLMs) of the AI software.
